Holy F’n Shit, Another?
by Beeraroundtown ~ November 5th, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized.Wow, seems about every day I log on and run through my normal beer blog roll I’ve run into another new brewery opening up in Portland. Maybe people were bitter about the Men’s Health article about San Diego having more breweries, or maybe people just want to flip the recession the bird. Let me know if I’ve missed one:
New Brewery at Clinton Street – hopefully an upgrade over the old Clinton St. brewery, I tried to go there twice, once they only took cash and I was rolling with plastic that day, the other time they were closed for some random hour nonsense.
Migration Brewing – As Bill points out it sounds like they have a connection with Lucky Lab, that sounds good to me. While the Lab might not have the most exciting selection of beers (unless you’re a hop head), most stuff is pretty solid.
Coalition Brewing / Hobo Brewing – Home of the maple IPA… interesting flagship for the lineup, it at least slightly deviates from the typical IPA, so I have to give credit for that. I’ll hold off judgment till I try it.
Occidental Brewing – Not much info yet, but they will be brewing “Old Styles”, not quite sure what this means…. Maybe some new styles? or maybe just IPAs, they’re old right? Could be an occident waiting to happen… yawn, lame joke.
Rivergate Brewing – Jeff dug this info up the other day. From the post looks like he is an “Ale and Kolsch fan”… that sentence worries me a bit, kinda like saying “I’m a car and Kia fan”… Kolsch is an ale, but here’s to hoping out hope for some solid traditional session beers.
Harvester Brewing – Angelo recently posted about this new gluten free brewery. Gluten free makes me skeptical, so far sucked would be a kind description for all gluten free beers I’ve tried…. but with that said, Angelo has tried them and had good things to say.
Natian Brewing – I can’t find the article, but here is another new one around town. From what I remember their flagship is their “Mild IPA”… but unlike the name sounds it’s actually 7%… so not really mild.
Did I miss any? This is just recently, so others like Upright, Vertigo, and others who arrive this last year will only up this total. What is going on here? Did I miss a stimulus handout or something?
Look out PDX, here I come!

You have to be losing at least a quart with that setup.
Although the green is nice.
Cheers!

Hmm… “Around Town Brewing” does have a ring to it; better than “Captured by Porches” anyway. Near the top of alphabetical lists also.
I can’t think of any more new breweries; there is the new Cascade Barrel House.

Impressive list of new breweries around town. I kind of agree with you about gluten frees. I actually haven’t tried Harvester but Margaret has. From me, the jury’s still out. Word up.

Burlington Vermont’s American Flatbread Pizza is opening in Portland and should be in operation for early 2010. After they get settled they will be serving their Zero Gravity line of beers from the onsite brewery. Woohoo!
