Homebrewed Stirplate
by Beeraroundtown ~ May 21st, 2009. Filed under: Homebrewing, Uncategorized.Inspired by recent homebrew efforts I thought I would expand a bit and improve my practices (and really it is just about having more projects and gadgets, isn’t it?). I found a great post on Homebrewtalk.com by Anthony Lopez on how to make a cheap $20 stirplate for improving my yeast starters and building up massive cell counts. A few old computer parts, and old cell phone charger, and a trip to Radio Shack landed me this new gadget, just at the $20 budget. So far it seems to work well, but this weekend will be it’s initial run with an actual starter. Look out Wyeast Roselare blend, a tornado is on the horizon.

I have a stirplate and it works great! Double, triple your yeast count faster than any regular starter…..
…..except mine cost like over $100….. I wish I was more electronically inclined………
