Bottled up

I’m behind on everything, blogging, yardwork, work, other work, homebrewing, the list goes on. 3 day weekends seem to pass faster then a collection plate in today’s economy. Trying to keep up on my homebrewing I made some time this last weekend to bottle up my saison and un-Berliner weiss. I opted to cork some of my saison to hold in the higher carbonation… and letsĀ  not kid ourselves, cork and cage looks like the pimp shit. Anyway, the results turned out excellent and I can’t wait to try one of these out in a few weeks. The un-Berliner still smells a bit funky like the sour mash, so hopefully in a few weeks this will improve.

Next up was to brew my first real sour, a semi-Flemish red of sorts with the Roselare blend that will be aging away on port soaked oak and will be infused with the dregs of a few other beers during it’s aging. Next up I’m hoping to brew up another saison and possible a Wee Heavy and Quad, but I need to collect up some more Belgian bottles first. Note for future, bottling two batches and brewing a batch in a day is a bad idea, far to much stress for me.

The rest of the long weekend was spent digging irrigation trenches, having a glass of Cascade Sang Royal at Baileys, sneaking in a round of golf, and taking a great trip out to Oswald West for a day of hiking and enjoying the Oregon coast.

This week I plan on dropping into Belmont for the Upright meet the brewer as I have yet to try the 4, 6, and 7. Anyone else attending this?

I’m gonna try and get there Friday but my girlfriend’s parents are visiting town so it may be beyond my control… The 5 was amazing, I’d love to get my hand on the other three. If I miss this event I least the 7 will be at the Organic Brewers Fest, from what I’ve heard.

Corking is SOOOO cool. I envy you this feat. Is it difficult? Require expensive equipment? Where’d you get the cool bottles?

    Jeff,
The bottles I just reuse from Belgian beers I drink or friends donate to me after consumption. I have the Colona capper/corker, its about $60. It caps US and Euro bottles and corks beer using a bit of trickery. Really easy once you get the process down and I think corks are about .25 each and cages are really cheap.
